Changes

Animal fluids and tissues (excluding reproductive material)

Effective from 1 November 2019

Following the department’s review of equine fluids and tissues, changes have been made to the standard import conditions for these goods. These changes are described below.

  • BICON pathway has been simplified.

  • Two lists of countries approved for the import of equine fluids and tissues have been placed on the department’s website: Countries Approved for Animal Fluids and Tissues.

  • Standard permits now contain a link to the above web site rather than containing a static list of countries.

  • A manufacturer’s declaration or a supplier’s declaration is now required to attest that the goods meet the import conditions.

  • An additional standard permit has been introduced for equine fluids and tissues that require containment in an approved arrangements site Class 5 Biosecurity containment level 1 (or higher). This case allows for import of equine fluids and tissues from a selection of countries that are not listed on the current standard permit. Equine fluids and tissues sourced from these additional countries can be used in vitro only.

Who does this notice effect:

Importers of equine fluids and tissues, Client Contact Group, Assessment Services Group.
