Salmonid fish for human consumption

Effective from 12 October 2021

The department has written to Latvia to advise they are now recognised as an approved processing country for salmon. The following countries have advised they can comply with the import conditions for salmon:

Source countries: Australia, Canada, Denmark, Norway, Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States of America*.

Processing countries: Canada, Denmark, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Philippines (thermally treated product only), Poland, Republic of Ireland, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States of America*.

*The United States of America is approved as both a source and processing country however they have advised that they can only certify product that is sourced and processed in the USA. Trade cannot occur where product is sourced in the USA and processed elsewhere OR where product is sourced elsewhere and processed in the USA.

Trade in New Zealand salmon may also occur, however conditions for New Zealand differ to those from other countries. Importers should review BICON and ensure conditions can be met in full prior to export.
