Orchids for use as nursery stock

Effective from 18 December 2019

The Department of Agriculture has reviewed the bacterium Dickeya fangzhongdai following its detection on Phalaenopsis spp. nursery stock from approved sources in Taiwan. As a result, the department will continue to consider this to be a pathogen of biosecurity concern for Australia.

Additional measures have been put in place at approved sources in Taiwan to lower the incidence of this pathogen.

Clarification has also been provided for incoming consignments detected with disease symptoms. Consignments with disease symptoms will be placed on hold while an assessment of the biosecurity risk is made by a plant pathologist.

Who does this notice affect:

Importers of Phalaenopsis spp. nursery stock from approved sources in Taiwan, brokers, Inspections Group, and Assessment Services Group.
