Prunus spp. for use as nursery stock

Effective from 18 November 2021

The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (the department) has undertaken a review of the host range of pathogen Spiroplasma citri. As Prunus and Pyrus have been identified as hosts, imported nursery stock of these genera will need to be tested for Spiroplasma citri while undergoing post-entry quarantine.

Who does this notice affect:
Importers of Prunus and Pyrus nursery stock, brokers and department staff.

Import permits:
Import permit holders will be contacted directly regarding permit variations.

Prunus and Pyrus plants currently in post entry quarantine (PEQ):
Prunus and Pyrus plants currently in PEQ and due for release from 1 January 2022 will be tested for Spiroplasma citri. Importers with affected plants in PEQ will be contacted shortly.
