Revised import conditions for sheep embryos

Effective from 12 May 2021

The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment has revised the import conditions for sheep embryos and import conditions from permitted countries have changed.

The department has added East Friesian – ARQ/ARQ at Codons 136/154/171 to the existing list of breeds and genotypes permitted without consultation with the department.

Who does this notice affect:
Importers of sheep embryos, Veterinary and Export Meat Group.

Background:

The department has determined that sheep of homozygous ARQ/ARQ genotypes of the East Friesian breed are considered susceptible to scrapie and meet the Australian import requirements for scrapie susceptibility.
