Changes

Colocasia spp. for use as nursery stock

Effective from 10 July 2019

The department has made an amendment to the import conditions for Colocasia spp. for use as nursery stock.

The department’s import conditions review on nursery stock has determined that there is insufficient evidence available to verify that existing import conditions manage biosecurity risks to an acceptable level.

A comprehensive review of the biosecurity risk profile will be required to re-establish import conditions. Any reviews will be done in accordance with departmental priorities and resources.

For enquiries regarding the import conditions for this commodity, please contact the department at imports@agriculture.gov.au .

Who does this notice affect:
Importers of Colocasia spp. for use as nursery stock, brokers and Department of Agriculture staff.

Import Permits:
There are currently no import permits impacted by this change. Importers intending to submit an import permit application should familiarise themselves with these changes.

Background:
Our department has conducted operational reviews of plant, animal and biological import conditions to protect Australia’s biosecurity status and to maintain our market access for agricultural products. The review of import conditions for nursery stock sought to strengthen biosecurity surveillance and analysis under the Agricultural Competitiveness White Paper.
