Cannabis spp. as nursery stock

Change notice


This notice provides clients of the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (the department) notification of new import conditions for Cannabis tissue cultures


What is the change?


  • The department has completed a review of the biosecurity risks associated with Cannabis tissue culture, which require the material to be grown and disease screened at the Government Quarantine station at Mickleham for a minimum period of 3 months.


  • The full import conditions are now available in the BICON Case ‘Cannabis spp. for use as Nursery stock’


  • Prior to applying for an import permit from the Department of Agriculture, importers:

- are required to make a booking at the Quarantine station. The station can be contacted on 1800 900 090 or via email at PEQservices@agriculture.gov.au

- ensure all other government licenses/permissions are obtained, such as licences from the Office of Drug Control, Department of Health.
