Deer semen

Effective from 31 January 2020

The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment has revised the import conditions for deer embryos and deer semen.

- The import conditions for deer embryos and deer semen from permitted countries have changed.

- The importation of deer embryos and deer semen from EU countries now requires individual risk assessment.

Who does this notice affect:

Importers of deer embryos and deer semen, Veterinary and Export Meat Group, Inspections Group and Assessment Services Group.

Background:

The department has determined that additional individual risk assessment is required for the importation of deer embryos and deer semen from selected EU countries due to the presence of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in the EU.
