Tropical and temperate species for use as nursery stock

Effective from 15 November 2019

The purpose of this notification is to advise of the removal of the species Carica jamaicensis, a synonym of Carica papaya, from the 'Tropical and temperate species for use as nursery stock' BICON case. It will be moved to the 'Carica papaya for use as nursery stock' BICON case.

Who does this notice affect:

Importers of nursery stock, customs brokers, Assessment Services Group and Inspections Group.

Background:

The department has conducted operational reviews of plant, animal and biological import conditions to protect Australia’s biosecurity status and to maintain our market access for agricultural products. The review of import conditions for seeds for sowing were part of strengthening biosecurity surveillance and analysis under the Agricultural Competitiveness White Paper.
