Changes

Coir peat

Effective from 24 January 2020

The department has recently commenced changes as a result of the import condition review and to better fulfil operational requirements. As a result, the following changes have been made:

  • A split in import conditions has been implemented to create a better distinction between:

    - 100% coir peat products (no import permit required); and

    - Coir peat products containing additives (import permit required).

  • The introduction of a manufacturer’s declaration to provide evidence for consignments comprising of 100% coir peat products and assist with clearance of goods.

  • A change in the inspection requirements for 100% coir peat products allowing a partial unpack inspection at a class 1.1, 2.2 or 2.4 approved arrangement site. This has replaced a tailgate inspection.

Who does this notice affect:

Importers of coir peat products for use in the horticulture industry as a growth medium, mulch or fertiliser and department biosecurity officers in Assessment Services Group and Inspections Group.
