Change of mail shipment addressee requirements

Effective from 16 September 2021

The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (the department) has reviewed the mail shipment addressee requirements for imported plant research material, plant genetic material, plant-associated microorganisms (and genetic material of), herbarium specimens, plant diagnostic kits, Drosophila spp. and plant related biological control agents. These goods will no longer be required to be addressed care of the department (i.e., “C/O – Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment Nursery stock/Seeds unit.”) when imported via the mail pathway. These goods can now be addressed directly to the importer.

Who does this notice affect:
Importers and brokers of plant research material and related goods as listed, as well as department staff.

Background:
The mail shipment requirements for plant research material and related goods have been reviewed and updated to align with current department biosecurity inspection and consignment clearance processes.

Import permits:
Permit holders may be contacted over the coming months as the department facilitates the variation of permits to reflect this change.
