Fresh mandarins and tangerines for human consumption

Effective from 18 August 2020

An updated phosphine treatment schedule has been published for fresh mandarins and sweet oranges imported from the United States of America.

Fresh mandarins and sweet oranges treated with phosphine must comply with the following schedule:

  • Phosphine at the initial dose rate of ≥ 300 ppmv (0.5 mgL-1) with a minimum concentration of ≥ 260 ppmv (and ≤ 1000 ppmv) to be maintained during the treatment period of ≥12 hours, at a fruit pulp temperature ≥ 5.0°C.

Methyl bromide fumigation remains an option in the absence of phosphine fumigation.
