Removing Uruguay as a pine pitch canker host country

Effective from 23 February 2022

Uruguay is no longer considered to be a country where pine pitch canker (Fusarium circinatum) is present.

As a result, Pinus spp. and Pseudotsuga spp. seeds for sowing and nursery stock (including tissue cultured and non-tissue cultured plants) are permitted entry from Uruguay subject to compliance with all import conditions, including the requirement for consignments to be accompanied with a valid import permit.

Background:
The department is committed to reviewing import conditions to ensure that conditions remain current in light of changing pest distribution.

Fusarium circinatum is the causal agent of pine pitch canker. It is a significant quarantine pest for Australia, and is currently listed as a National Priority Plant Pest for Australia.

Who does this notice affect:
Importers of Pinus spp. and Pseudotsuga spp. as nursery stock and seed for sowing, customs brokers and departmental staff.
