Plant species that are weeds

Effective from 15 February 2020

The species Ailanthus altissima (and synonyms) has been added to the BICON case ‘Plant species that are weeds’.

Who does this notice affect:

Importers of seed and nursery stock.

Background:

Ailanthus altissima (synonyms: Ailanthus glandulosa, Toxicodendron altissimum) is present in Australia but is declared under legislation in the ACT, New South Wales and Victoria. The species is also regarded as an environmental weed in New South Wales, the ACT, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and Western Australia. As this species is considered to be under official control, Ailanthus altissima (and its synonyms) are regulated weeds for Australia, and not permitted entry into Australia.
