Zantedeschia spp. for use as nursery stock

Effective from 1 October 2019

The department has amended the import conditions for Zantedeschia spp. for use as nursery stock.

The changes have been made following a departmental review of the import conditions to ensure that conditions are consistent, fit-for-purpose and effectively manage the biosecurity risks to meet an appropriate level of protection for Australia.

The changes include the following:

  • Amendments to align methyl bromide fumigation directions for imported tubers with existing import requirements.

  • Administrative updates to case conditions and the ‘Systems approach for producing Zantedeschia tubers’ documents for approved sources in the Netherlands, New Zealand the United States of America. These changes were made to promote clarity to existing import requirements.

Who does this notice affect:

Importers of Zantedeshia spp. for use as nursery stock, brokers and Department of Agriculture staff.

Import permits:

Import permits affected by this change will be varied by the 11th of October 2019.

Background:

The department has conducted operational reviews of plant, animal and biological import conditions to protect Australia’s biosecurity status and to maintain our market access for agricultural products. The review of import conditions for nursery stock sought to strengthen biosecurity surveillance and analysis under the Agricultural Competitiveness White Paper.
