Domestic birds

Effective from 4 March 2020

Following an administrative review of conditions, departmental officers, importers and industry are advised of the following amendments to conditions for the import of household pet birds from New Zealand:

  • Nomination of the pre-export quarantine premises address in the application form.

  • Clarification of the procedure for nomination and inspection of the post-arrival quarantine (PAQ) premises during the import permit application process.

  • Clarification of the applicant’s other obligations to wildlife trade and conservation laws.

  • Specific post-arrival quarantine (PAQ) requirements are now clearly demarcated in an appendix.

Who does this notice affect:
Importers of pet birds from New Zealand, Veterinary and Export Meat Group, Assessment Services Group, Inspections Group.
