Changes

Medium risk plants for use as nursery stock

Effective from 4 April 2020

The following Cucurbitaceae species are considered to be hosts of Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus (CGMMV), and have been moved to the ‘Cucurbits as nursery stock requiring testing’ BICON case:

  • Trichosanthes anguina

  • Trichosanthes cucumerina

  • Tristemon texanus

Stakeholders are reminded that the import conditions for CGMMV nursery stock hosts are currently suspended under emergency measures for CGMMV.

While the department completed a pest risk analysis for CGMMV on imported seed for sowing in 2017, the justification of emergency measures behind the suspension of host tissue cultures and nursery stock imports will be reviewed by the department at a later date. Importers seeking to import these species are to contact the department for further information.

Who does this notice affect:

Assessment Services Group, Inspections Group.

Background:

Trichosanthes cucumerina (syn: T. anguina) was identified as a natural host of CGMMV within the department’s ‘Final pest risk analysis (PRA) for Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus (CGMMV)’ (2017).

Tristemon texanus is a synonym of Cucurbita pepo subsp. ovifera var. texana, which is currently regulated as a host of CGMMV.
