Changes

Enzymes

Effective from 19 June 2020

Changes have been made to the import scenarios (questions and answers) and import conditions for enzymes and products containing enzymes.

The department has finalised a review of the Enzymes case. As a result of the review the following changes have been made:

  • simplifying case pathways

  • updated import conditions

  • new pathway for Porcine derived enzymes

  • addition of product questionnaires to provide importers with the information needed to be provided with an application for a non-standard permit

  • links to alternative BICON cases that may be applicable to the goods to be imported.

Who does this notice affect:

Importers of enzymes and products containing enzymes, Assessment Services Group and Client Contact Group.

Background:

As a result of the department’s review of the Enzymes case, the following changes have been made:

  • The pathways have been streamlined and will now separate products based on what they are derived from.

  • Avian derived lysozyme products for human consumption will now be diverted to the ‘Egg and Egg products’ case in order to remove overlap of commodities within BICON.

  • To clarify which import conditions are associated with plant derived enzymes, an additional pathway has been created to divert these products to the ‘Highly refined organic chemicals and substances’ case.

  • Porcine derived enzymes will now have additional import conditions placed on them due to the ever-increasing risk of African Swine Fever entering Australia.
