Changes

Plant species that are weeds

Effective from 7 May 2020

The following scientific names have been added to the ‘Plant species that are weeds’ BICON case, as these species have been identified as being under official control in Australia and are therefore not permitted entry into Australian territory.

  • Homeria flaccida

  • Homeria miniata

  • Watsonia meriana

Who does this notice affect:

Importers of seed and nursery stock, customs brokers and departmental staff.

Background:

This change is being made following a departmental assessment, which determined that these species are under official control and therefore not permitted in Australian territory. The Weed Risk Assessment system is a science-based quarantine risk analysis tool for determining the weed potential of a plant. All plants proposed for importation into Australia and not currently permitted on BICON are assessed for their potential to become weeds in Australia. Further information on the Weed Risk Assessment system is available on the department’s website.
