Pet food

Effective from 12 September 2020

The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment has recently reviewed the Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) risk status of various countries. These BSE risk statuses are used by the department for trade purposes relating to commodities other than beef and beef products for human consumption.

Romania has been designated to have a ‘controlled’ BSE risk status and Croatia’s BSE risk status has changed from ‘controlled’ to ‘negligible’.

Information about the countries considered by the department to have a negligible, controlled or undetermined Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) risk status is now available on the department’s website (see https://www.agriculture.gov.au/biosecurity/legislation/bse-country-list) rather than within individual BICON cases.
