Finfish (excluding Salmonid) for human consumption

Effective from 22 May 2020

The department has updated BICON to clarify the import conditions for seafood based flavours manufactured using finfish (excluding salmon). This change affects the following pathways:

  • Bony fish - Consumer-ready form.

  • Bony fish - Not in a consumer-ready form - Non-personal use - Finfish were not caught in international waters - Country of sourcing, processing and exporting - Eviscerated.

  • Bony fish - Not in a consumer-ready form - Non-personal use - Finfish were not caught in international waters - Country of sourcing, processing and exporting - Not eviscerated - Not farmed.

  • Cartilaginous fish (including dried fish).

Who does this notice affect:

All importers and assessing officers of products containing ingredients derived from seafood based flavours manufactured using finfish (excluding salmon).
