Fresh dates for human consumption

Effective from 24 July 2020

Import conditions have been published on BICON for the importation of fresh date fruit from Israel.

Who does this notice affect:

This notice affects importers of fresh date fruit from Israel, brokers and Assessment Services Group.

Background:

The change has arisen following the publication of the Final Report for the review of biosecurity import requirements for fresh dates from the Middle East and North Africa region in 2019.

The import conditions have been developed based on the standard commercial production practices and packing procedures. Fresh date fruit from Israel are also required to undergo phytosanitary inspection and in-transit cold treatment.

Further information:

Prior to the importation of goods into Australia, a valid import permit issued by the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment is required.

An import permit may be obtained by submitting an import permit application to the department (if viewed online, use the 'Apply Now' button at the bottom of the BICON case).
