Mushrooms for human consumption

Effective from 24 January 2019

Who does this notice affect:

This notice is of interest to clients, brokers and agents looking to import products containing permitted species of mushroom in a processed form i.e tablets, liquid, extract, vial or as an ingredient in food.

Background:

An additional option for “Processed” mushrooms (of permitted species), has been added to the Mushroom for human consumption case.

Clearer guidance for what constitutes ‘dried or ‘processed’ is also outlined.

  • Permitted forms of dried mushrooms include whole, sliced and powdered.

  • Permitted forms of processed mushrooms include those that have been manufactured into liquid, tablets, capsules or added as an ingredient in food or beverage products (including tea bags).

Existing conditions continue to be in force for all other forms of mushroom including restricted medicinal mushrooms. Please see the relevant case for further guidance.
