Table: Wooden products

Effective 12 October 2019 to 12 September 2020

The department has assessed that the following wooden products require minimal biosecurity intervention. Some or all of the following factors were considered as part of this assessment:

  1. processing and manufacturing techniques

  2. end use

  3. historical import data and trends

  4. common arrival modes and import volumes.

These factors, independently or in combination, have been determined to be adequate to reduce the biosecurity risk to an acceptable level.

Product

Balsa wood and Balsa wood articles

Blocks, sticks, zigzags and tank staves used for alcohol production

Book and album covers, wall plaques, trophy stands

Bracelets and items worn as jewellery

Brushes and combs (import conditions for materials other than wood must also be met)

Candle lids

Clothing related items limited to: clothes hangers; shoe stretchers and trees; cedar balls; pegs; and wall mounted hat and coat hooks

(excluding wardrobes, chest of drawers and other large storage units)

Coasters and trivets

Coin display boxes/Money boxes

Commercially made stringed instruments

Craft related items limited to: popsicle sticks; knitting needles; quilting hoops; crotchet hooks; buttons; pegs; beads; and balls - including items in manufactured articles

Densified wood

Display stands and easels

Dowling - including dowling in manufactured articles

Engineered flooring that is ready for installation

Footwear

Handles for the use of household items limited to: tools; hardware; buckets; brush/broom handles; umbrella handles; and walking stick handles.

Imitation jewellery

Kitchen items limited to: plates; bowls; pot/pan handles; lids; handheld utensils; knife blocks; and boards or stands for the preparation or service of food (including the case these items are packed in)

Laminated flooring that is ready for installation

MDF items containing no solid timber

Medical instruments

Mobile phone/tablet accessories limited to: cases; stands; and electrical chargers

New sporting goods

Pencils and pens (excludes pencils/pens containing bark)

Picture frames including: framing for canvases; and mirror frames

Plywood, laminated veneer lumber (LVL) and veneer sheets (excluding these goods imported as break-bulk from New Zealand during BPL season)

Plywood articles containing no solid timber

Rat/mouse traps

Reconstituted wood or wood plastic composite products containing no solid timber components

Reeds for musical instruments

Religious items limited to: collection salvers; crosses; and offertory bowls

Shelving and other items used in electric appliances (e.g. wine racks)

Skateboards

Speakers and sound equipment

Stationery and handheld office/school supplies limited to: staplers; rulers; and clipboards

Thin wooden articles of any length and less than 4mm in height and width

Timber and rattan sticks used in oil/perfume diffusers and candles

Toilet seats

Tool and brush/broom handles

Toothbrushes

Toothpicks

Toys, board games and teaching aids (excluding wooden play equipment, cubby houses and swing set frames, animal/pet toys/games/aids)

Tripods and easels

Veneer articles containing no solid timber

Weapons

Window dressings limited to: venetian blinds; curtain rods and rings; and shutters

Wooden barrels for alcohol production excluding barrels containing chestnut bark hoops

Wooden cheese boxes

Wooden cutlery, chopsticks, and food serving utensils

Wooden decorative boxes used for bottles of wine and other alcohol

Wooden musical instruments, articles used to play musical instruments (excluding those containing bark but including piano stools)

Wooden nail files

Wooden sticks and decorative boxes used in confectionery
