Definition of the term ‘prawn’


Prawns (also known as shrimps) are decapods of Dendrobranchiata (Decapoda) and Caridea (Pleocyemata: Decapoda). The department does not recognise glass sponge shrimp and coral shrimp (Stenopodidea: Pleocyemata: Decapoda) as prawn or shrimp.
