Revised import conditions for jerky and biltong for personal use
Effective from 6 November 2018Due to the ongoing spread of African Swine Fever (ASF), the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources has determined that jerky or biltong derived from porcines no longer meets Australia’s appropriate level of protection.
ASF is not present in Australia. An incursion of ASF in Australia would have significant impacts on pig health and production. In addition, our access to economically important international markets would be compromised.
As a result of the spread of ASF, jerky and biltong derived from pig meat brought in for an individuals personal use will no longer be permitted and is considered to pose a high biosecurity risk.
For further information, please refer to keeping African swine fever out of Australia.
