Revised import conditions for Myrtaceous species BPL affected timber from NZ from 25 July 2018

Effective from 6 June 2018

Who does this notice affect?

Importers of Myrtaceous species timber, customs brokers and regional officers.

What is changing?

On 25 July 2018 the Biosecurity (Prohibited and Conditionally Non-prohibited Goods) Determination 2016 will be updated.

This change will result in import permits no longer being required for Myrtaceous species timber. The specific import conditions currently available in BICON (except the import permit requirement) will remain in place for Myrtaceous timber after the change.

Current import permits will remain valid after 25 July 2018. However, current permit holders may wish to meet the standard BICON conditions rather than presenting their import permit after 25 July 2018.

Background

The Biosecurity (Prohibited and Conditionally Non-Prohibited Goods) Determination 2016 is currently under amendment. As a result, from 25 July 2018 certain commodities will no longer require an import permit when the specified alternative conditions are met.
