Import permits no longer required for Myrtaceous species timber

Effective from 6 June 2018

Revised import conditions for Myrtaceous species timber

Who does this notice affect?

Importers of Myrtaceous species timber, customs brokers and regional officers.

What is changing?

Myrtaceous species timber will not require an import permit if importers can meet the import conditions published in BICON.

Current import permits will remain valid after the date these changes take effect. However, importers may wish to meet the standard BICON conditions rather than presenting their import permit after this date.

Background

The Biosecurity (Prohibited and Conditionally Non-Prohibited Goods) Determination 2016 is currently being amended. As a result, certain commodities will no longer require an import permit when the specified alternative conditions are met. Due to delays in implementing changes to the Determination, the date when changes will take effect is to be advised. Please continue to monitor Alerts for further information..
