This notice provides clients of the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (the department) notification of changes to the standard laboratory microorganisms list.

What is the change?

The following species have been removed from the standard laboratory microorganisms list due to updated information regarding biosecurity risk:

• Amycolatopsis spp.
  

• Bacillus laterosporus
  

• Corynebacterium pekinense
  

• Leptospira hardjobovis (Leptospira interrogans serovar Hardjobovis)
  

• Shewanella marisflavi
  

• Vibrio parahaemolyticus VP_AHPND strains with plasmid coding for Pir toxin homologues
  

The following species has been added to the standard laboratory microorganisms list:

• Leptospira hardjobovis (Leptospira borgpetersenii serovar hardjo-bovis)
  

The following species names have been changed on the standard laboratory microorganisms list:

• Adeno-associated virus is no longer limited to types 1-9 isolated from human only
  

• Salmonella Adelaide (Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Adelaide) – formerly known as Salmonella adelaide
  

• Salmonella Salford (Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Salford) – formerly known as Salmonella Salford
  

• Salmonella Senftenberg (Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Senftenberg) – formerly known as Salmonella seftenberg
  

What does this mean for my imports?

The species which have been removed can no longer be imported with an import permit for standard laboratory microorganisms and for low risk genetic material for use in plants. A non-standard permit will be required. Species which have been renamed must be labelled with current name when importing.
