Revised import conditions for selected plant products to take effect 21 December 2017

Industry stakeholders including importers, approved arrangements, freight forwarders and brokers that deal with Grape vine articles, Artificial plants on natural stems, Unprocessed cotton, Unprocessed cereal straw articles, Banana fibre articles, Articles stuffed with herbs or seed, Thatching grass and Oak barrels with chestnut bark hoops.
What is changing?
From 21 December 2017 Grape vine articles, Unprocessed cereal straw articles, Unprocessed cotton, Artificial plants on natural stems, Banana fibre articles, Articles stuffed with herbs or seed, Thatching grass and Oak barrels with chestnut bark hoops will not require an import permit if importers can meet the import conditions published in BICON.
Background
The Biosecurity (Prohibited and Conditionally Non-Prohibited Goods) Determination 2016 is currently under amendment. As a result, from 21 December 2017 certain commodities will no longer require an import permit when the specified alternative conditions are met.
