Commencement of Burnt Pine Longicorn (BPL) flight season

Effective from 24 November 2017

The Ministry of Primary Industries New Zealand (MPI NZ) has advised the Department of Agriculture Water Resources that the 2017/18 flight season of the Burnt Pine Longicorn (BPL) beetle will commence for all New Zealand ports as of midnight (NZST) on 23/11/2017. Please note the following exemptions:

  1. Consignments already loaded onto vessels before the commencement of the flight season are exempt from treatment in accordance with the MPI ‘Adult Arhopalus ferus Risk Management Plan’.

  2. Consignments already loaded and sealed into containers before the commencement of the flight season are exempt from treatment in accordance with the MPI ‘Adult Arhopalus ferus Risk Management Plan’.

Please note: plywood, laminated veneer lumber (LVL) and veneer sheets imported as break-bulk from New Zealand during BPL season are not included on the table of highly processed wooden articles. Please see the conditions for BPL affected timber from New Zealand.
