Alert for fresh stone fruit for human consumption case

Who does this alert affect?

Importers of fresh produce.

What has changed?

Importers should note the following changes:

  1. New conditions have been published on BICON for the importation of peaches, plums and apricots from China. Conditions apply only to peaches, plums and apricots that have been grown and packed in China and exported in accordance with the conditions governing entry of fresh peaches, plums and apricots to Australian territory.

  2. Conditions for the importation of nectarines from China have been updated to align with the new conditions for the importation of peaches, plums and apricots from China. Measures remain the same however importers should note the following updated labelling requirements.

The following information must be visible on each carton:

  1. Product of China for Australia

  2. Packinghouse Code (PHC)

Further information

Prior to the importation of peaches, plums and apricots from China into Australian territory, a valid import permit issued by the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources is required.

An import permit may be obtained by submitting an import permit application to the department (if viewed online, use the 'Apply Now' button at the bottom of the BICON case).

A permit is not required for nectarines from China.
