Submissions to update import conditions for meat based flavours and tallows and fats

Effective from 24 November 2017

The Animal and Biological Import Assessment Branch (ABIAB), through funding provided under the 2015 Agricultural Competitiveness White Paper, is currently undertaking a review of import conditions. This project will ensure the department’s import conditions, associated with animal and biological products, promote efficient processes for the department and clients, and are effective at managing biosecurity risks.

We will:

• review import conditions to ensure they are clear, written in plain English, easily accessible, and consistent with policy and legislation

• consider removing the requirement for import permits where practicable

• ensure import conditions are consistent between similar risk commodities

• ensure entry management pathways are clear

The project will not review the science or policies underpinning import conditions.

We are seeking submissions regarding current issues or concerns with respect to the importation of meat based flavours, tallows and fats which will include the following BICON cases:

• Meat based flavours
• Fat and tallow for human consumption

If you wish to submit comments regarding meat based flavours, tallows and fats please provide them via email at ABIABImportConditionsReview@agriculture.gov.au or by phone on 1800 900 090 (Prompt 1, then Prompt 6, and ask for the ABIAB Import Conditions Review (ICR) section).

Please provide any feedback on or before close of business on 4 December 2017. Responses received after this date may not be included in the review.

Once proposed changes have been developed, we will contact you again and give you the opportunity to provide further feedback.

Thank you for your involvement in this process.

Yours sincerely,
