Revised import conditions for Frozen Fruit, Vegetables and Herbs

Effective from 7 April 2017

As a result of the import conditions review on frozen fruit, vegetables and herbs for human consumption, the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources advises regional officers, importers and customs brokers the following changes to the current relevant BICON cases and their import conditions.


  • Removing a number of BICON cases and consolidating them into one case titled “Frozen Fruit, Vegetables and Herbs for human consumption”

  • Removing the permitted species lists on frozen fruit, vegetable and herbs.

  • Removing the requirement for blanching of all vegetables and herbs.

  • Removing the requirement for peeling for frozen ginger and horseradish.

  • Removing prunus spp, jack fruit and grapes from the “Permitted frozen fruit and requires processing” pathway.

  • Moving the conditions for frozen banana in to the “Banana for human consumption, in vitro use or processing” BICON case.


The changes will take effect from 24 April 2017.

This alert applies to the following existing BICON cases:

  • Blanched and frozen vegetables and herbs for human consumption - Removal

  • Frozen fruit, vegetables and herbs for human consumption – Revision

  • Frozen corn for human consumption - removal

  • Frozen potato products for human consumption – Removal

  • Banana for human consumption, in vitro use or processing – Revision
