Postponement of Xylella fastidiosa emergency measures on BKD certified bulbs from the Netherlands

Effective from 30 March 2016

This alert applies to importers of the following bulbs produced and certified under the BKD scheme in the Netherlands:

  • Narcissus spp.

  • Hyacinthus spp.

  • Hippeastrum spp.

The department previously advised that implementation of emergency measures for Xylella fastidiosa on affected BKD certified bulbs would be delayed until the 31 March 2016.

As a result of information provided by the Netherlands Plant Protection Organisation, the department has decided to further postpone the introduction of emergency measures for Xylella fastidiosa on affected BKD certified bulbs until early 2017. This will allow for the import of affected BKD certified bulbs produced from the 2016 growing season under current import conditions.

The department will continue to monitor the status of Xylella fastidiosa in Europe and the Netherlands and will notify importers of any decisions or proposed changes to import conditions for affected BKD certified bulbs.
