Removal of Uruguay from the list of Khapra Beetle (Trogoderma granarium) countries
Effective from 6 February 2016Notification of the planned removal of Uruguay from the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources’ list of khapra beetle (Trogoderma granarium) countries.
Who does this notice affect?
This notice affects clients of the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (the department) who import seeds, grains and stored plant products (excluding fresh produce) from Uruguay.
What is the change?
The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources has implemented an immediate removal of Uruguay from the department’s ‘khapra beetle countries’ list, following confirmation from the Uruguay National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) that Uruguay is free from khapra beetle.
Full container loads will no longer require the added endorsement on phytosanitary certificates stating that the consignment was found to be free of khapra beetle.
What has changed?
Uruguay has been removed from the khapra beetle countries list (http://www.agriculture.gov.au/import/before/pests/khapra_beetle) on the department’s website.
BICON commodity cases and import conditions affected by this change have been amended.
Changes to be implemented:
Variations to all active ICON and BICON import permits which currently include additional khapra beetle phytosanitary requirements for Uruguay.
Importers are advised that until import permits are amended, current permit conditions remain in effect.
