Import conditions for fresh lemon, mandarins and clementine fruit from Egypt

Effective from 17 December 2015

Department of Agriculture officers, importers and brokers are advised that conditions for importing fresh lemon, mandarin and clementine fruit from Egypt for human consumption are now available on the Biosecurity Import Conditions (BICON) database. The release of import conditions follows a review by the Department of Agriculture. Lemons, mandarins and clementines from Egypt to Australia may be imported under the same import requirements as currently traded oranges and limes.

All permitted citrus from Egypt must undergo in-transit cold treatment for Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata) and peach fruit fly (Bactrocera zonata).

Each consignment must be accompanied by a valid import permit and an official government Phytosanitary certificate.

Importers are reminded that an Import Permit must be obtained prior to importation.
