Upcoming publication of import conditions for fresh table grapes from Japan

Effective from 27 August 2024

The department will publish import conditions for fresh table grapes from Japan.

The import conditions will apply to fresh table grapes which are defined as the entire fruit with the skin, flesh, seed and a small portion of the stem. Please note: peduncles, rachises, laterals, pedicels are permitted.

These import conditions are based on the standard commercial production practices and packing procedures in Japan and as per the final report for table grapes from Japan.

Fresh table grapes from Japan must be produced under an approved systems approach to mitigate the risk of Drosophila suzukii and a separate systems approach for five regulated pathogens. A sulphur pad is required to manage Daktulosphaira vitifoliae and pre-export inspection and certification is necessary to ensure freedom from other quarantine pests and risk material. A system of traceability and registration of entities and pack houses, is managed by Japan.
