The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the department) has added 17 genera to the list of approved starter cultures.

Background:
In 2020 the Lactobacillus genus was split into 25 genera, 23 of which are novel. Policy advice was provided for seven genera that were subsequently added to the web list of approved starter cultures in October 2023. The additional 17 genera have now been assessed and added to the list of approved starter cultures.

Importers of Approved starter cultures, Biosecurity Imports Support Team (BIST) and Pathway Operations Cargo - Assessment and Inspections.
