Change to evidence requirements for synthetic material

Effective from 17 January 2024

On 1 February 2024, the following changes will be made to the 'Synthetic material' BICON case:

Consignments of synthetic material will need to provide either:

  1. Evidence that the goods are not genetic material (including but not limited to synthetic genetic material), or
  2. A statement that the goods do not code for a disease agent or part of a disease agent.

It is already a condition of the existing BICON case that goods do not code for a disease agent or part of a disease agent. The changes being implemented on 1 February 2024 will ensure the existing consignment-specific evidence requirements can clearly demonstrate adherence to this condition.
