Upcoming changes to test kits standard conditions

Effective from 15 April 2023

The department has reviewed import conditions for test kits and has updated the conditions for this commodity. The updates to the existing case will clarify import conditions and broaden the range of goods that can be imported using a standard permit.

From 24 April 2023, the 'Test kits testing for human conditions, excl. Listed Human Diseases and zoonotic diseases (Standard)' commodity pathway will be replaced by the new 'Test kits testing for disease agents, excl. Listed Human Diseases and Pathogens of Animal Biosecurity Concern (standard)' pathway.

Please note the following:

  1. No action is required from current permit holders. The department will not be amending current active permits.
  2. Permit holders may apply to vary any currently active import permit via their online BICON account to include the updated conditions (fees apply).
  3. For importers wishing to import test kits including any of the following, please refer to the pathway 'Test kits not testing for disease agents (standard)':

    • haematology tests,
    • hormone tests, including pregnancy tests etc.,
    • drug tests,
    • chemical tests,
    • genetic test, or
    • test kits for allergy testing on humans;

Who does this notice affect:
Importers of or brokers for purified antibodies, Pathways Operations Cargo – Assessment and Inspections, and biosecurity staff.
