Outbreak of sheep and goat pox in Spain

Effective from 4 January 2023

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has been notified of an outbreak of sheep and goat pox in Spain in 2022. Sheep and goat embryos and semen from Spain will not be able to meet the following import condition for sheep and goat pox:

"The exporting county meets the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) Code Article definitions for country freedom from sheep and goat pox (capripox virus)."

Sheep and goat embryos and semen from Spain are therefore ineligible for import to Australia until Spain can regain its country freedom from sheep and goat pox.
