As of 8 March 2023, the standard permit conditions for Prepared media (including pre-poured plates, swabs, vials etc.) will be updated to reflect current biosecurity policy. The changes will include the following:

• limiting the goods to being microbiological culture media only, and
• exclude goods containing foetal bovine serum (FBS) under this case.

What does this mean for you:
Current importers holding permits for Prepared media (including pre-poured plates, swabs, vials etc.) will not be affected by this change. The changes will take place to permits applied for after 8 March 2023.

Who does this alert affect:
Industry stakeholders, importers of prepared culture media, Pathways Operations Cargo – Assessment and Inspections, and biosecurity officers.
