New BICON pathway for goods sourced from the Australian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)
Effective from 29 September 2022As of 29 September 2022, importers will be able to use a new BICON pathway for goods sourced from the Australian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
The EEZ of Australia is defined as the area between 12 and 200 nautical miles of the coast of Australia.
The new case has been made to reflect section 11 (2) (a) of the Biosecurity (Conditionally Non-prohibited Goods) Determination 2021 which excludes goods sourced from the ocean or ocean floor within the EEZ of Australia that have not left the EEZ prior to import from requiring an import permit.
Who does this alert affect:
Importers of goods sourced from the ocean, or the ocean floor, within the Australian Exclusive Economic Zone.
