Notice of import conditions for food products imported as unaccompanied personal effects

Effective from 7 September 2022

This notice is to advise importers of unaccompanied personal effects that all food products must be declared. Food products imported as unaccompanied personal effects must meet the import conditions for personal use. The import conditions can be found on the departments BICON database: BICON - Australian Biosecurity Import Conditions (agriculture.gov.au).

Importers should note that personal consignments of meat and meat products containing beef, pork, lamb, sheep meat and goat meat must be manufactured in countries listed in the departments FMD-free Country List.

The products must be clearly labelled with the country of manufacture. Meat and meat products containing beef, pork, lamb, sheep meat and goat meat that are not manufactured in countries listed in the departments FMD-free Country List will not be allowed entry into Australia and will be directed for destruction.
