Government certificate requirements for laboratory products

Effective from 3 August 2022

The department has recently issued import permits that include updated government certificate requirements that include the following words:

"The [species] material was derived from [species] born, raised and slaughtered/born, raised and residing in [source countries as listed on the departments lists of Countries Approved for Animal Fluids and Tissues] only."

The department is seeking to standardise the attestation wording used on multiple health certificates for biological products from approved countries. Our goal is for the supporting certification for these products to include practical attestations for the exporting country and provide a level of assurance to Australia that the risk associated is managed to meet Australia’s appropriate level of protection.

We have been negotiating with various countries regarding these certification requirements and a number of agreed certificates are now in use. While these changes are important for managing biosecurity risk, in some cases this has caused delays in the export of goods to Australia. We are working hard with the authorities in those countries to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Who does this notice affect:
Importers of laboratory products which require government certification.
