Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD): Cleanliness requirements reminder

Effective from 28 April 2022

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the department) reminds importers and staff of the import cleanliness requirements for animal transportation equipment.

Background:
The department has received notification that cases of LSD and FMD have been detected in Indonesia.

These diseases pose significant biosecurity risks to Australia, and the department reminds importers of Animal transportation equipment that goods must meet cleanliness requirements to reduce the risk of a potential incursion and help Australia maintain its current disease-free status.

Animal Transportation Equipment will continue to be subject to inspection on arrival by biosecurity officers to ensure all goods are clean and free of biosecurity risk material. Should any material be found, the goods will be subject to cleaning to mitigate this risk. Conditions for the import of this these goods can be found on BICON.

Departmental staff and importers of animal transportation equipment.
