Changes to LSD-free country list and approved countries for bovine fluids and tissues list

Effective from 4 March 2022

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the department) has updated the list of countries approved for bovine fluids and tissues and the list of countries free of LSD.

These lists are referenced on active permits and in BICON pathways. The lists are used where import conditions require goods to be sourced from bovines which resided in countries approved for bovine fluids and tissues and bovine derived dairy products sourced and/or manufactured and/or exported from Indonesia (as listed on the department’s website).

If you are an affected permit holder, the department will contact you to notify you that your permit is affected by this change and explain what this means.

Background:
The department has received notification that cases of LSD have been detected in Indonesia. To reduce the risk of a potential incursion and help Australia maintain its current LSD-free status, the department has taken the decision to restrict imports of bovine derived fluids and tissues and bovine derived dairy products from this country.

Due to the high biosecurity risks posed by LSD in bovine material, Indonesia has been removed from the list of approved countries for the import of bovine fluids and tissues and from the list of LSD-free countries effective 3 March 2022.

The department will be in contact with any permit holders affected by this change to provide further information about the impact on import conditions for specific goods.

If you are preparing a consignment of bovine derived fluids and tissues or bovine derived dairy products from Indonesia, you are advised not to dispatch the consignment.

If you already have a consignment of bovine derived fluids and tissues or bovine derived dairy products from on route from Indonesia, please contact the department as soon as possible. Contact details below.

Who does this alert affect:
