Import conditions for fresh plums from USA

Effective from 19 August 2015

Department of Agriculture Officers, Importers and Brokers are advised that conditions for importing fresh plums (Prunus salicina) for human consumption from the State of California are now available on the Biosecurity Import Conditions (BICON) database. The import conditions are in accordance with the “Import Risk Analysis on the importation of stonefruit from the US states of California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho” of 19 July 2010 and the “Final pest risk analysis report for Drosophila suzukii” of 24 April 2013.

Plums from the United States are only permitted into Australia from Madera, Fresno, Kings, Tulare and Kern counties within the State of California.

Plums from USA must undergo mandatory methyl bromide treatment for Spotted wing drosophila (Drosophila suzukii).

Each consignment must be accompanied by a valid import permit and an official government Phytosanitary certificate.

Importers are reminded that an Import Permit must be obtained prior to importation.
