Inclusion of Australian ISTA approved laboratories list within BICON

Effective from 25 November 2021

The purpose of this notice is to advise stakeholders that the list of International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) approved laboratories in Australia that are accredited by the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (the department) to undertake seed analysis, is now published and available within BICON import conditions.

The listed ISTA laboratories are approved by the department to perform purity and germination analysis on seeds imported for sowing and consumption, as well as taxonomic identification of contaminant seeds detected on imported consignments.

Please refer to the list of department approved seed testing laboratories in Australia for the contact information for the laboratories.

This list has been included as a link within the import conditions of imported seed cases, whereby seeds require analysis at an ISTA laboratory upon arrival in Australia.

Who does this alert affect:
Importers (and their customs brokers) of seeds requiring analysis at an ISTA approved laboratory, and department staff.
